City of Dublin Now Powered 100% by Renewable Energy

The City of Dublin has partnered with Dublin-based company IGS Energy on our latest sustainability initiative. All City buildings, streetlights and electric vehicle power stations now run on 100% renewable energy across all electrical counts. This partnership is an exciting step toward carbon neutrality and helps limit environmental pollution, which can improve overall health and aligns with Dublin City Council’s vision of being the most sustainable global city of choice.

“Dublin aspires to be a leader and example of sustainable City operations,” Deputy City Manager Robert Ranc says. “We are proud to be working with not only a renewable energy provider but a Dublin-based business to further this vision.”

IGS has previously worked with the City on sustainability projects, including the combined heat and power system at the Dublin Community Recreation Center (DCRC) and the compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling station at the City Fleet Building.

The City has a long history of working to improve energy efficiency. In 2012, the City began replacing the light bulbs in streetlights, traffic signals and in city buildings with energy-efficient LED lights. The City continues to expand its electric vehicle fleet and supporting infrastructure. Additionally, the City is updating our sustainability framework, which will guide future environmental stewardship efforts. The framework update is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
